Nothing inspires us more than hearing the real-life impact our products have — and today, we're honored to share a story from our good friend, Joshua Carney, known to many as the "Son of the South."
I’m Joshua Carney, an outdoor enthusiast who lives for those crisp mornings in the woods and a slow afternoon watching the day come to an end. My life has a lot of challenges being a paraplegic who’s wheelchair-bound; the smallest of things to others can become a big deal for me. Now, I wasn’t always paraplegic. Hunting was something that always felt like home to me earlier in my life, and I was 13 years old. My world became very challenged as I was shot by my dad while turkey hunting. This led to me losing my ability to walk and caused me to be wheelchair-bound.
Most people in my situation would’ve just quit, hung up the towel, and said this is not for me, but I went the complete opposite way! I went right back to hunting, more passionately than I ever had before, even with all the challenges that it presented getting into the woods and bringing game back home. Over time, I’ve created a lot of things that I thought would help me, and some of them did, but it was nothing like the feeling that I had getting into the new electric treestand lift by HyTek Hunting. Being able to stop the limitations of the way I was used to experiencing deer hunting changed completely because of the freedom that HyTek gave me. Going to Kentucky, meeting Bill Brown, and being introduced to this incredible invention made me so excited to experience the outdoors in the way that I haven’t for years.
I saw the potential in this as soon as the guys set it up! Imagine being wheelchair-bound for 10+ years and everything is ground level to you; the feeling of being elevated brought me so much freedom on the inside because I could see life from a totally different perspective. Being able to see everything around me from 15 to 20 feet up in the air was one of the most incredible feelings I’ve ever felt without being on an airplane. Not only did I feel like I had an upper hand in the outdoors, but I knew what this could do for so many others who, just like me, are physically challenged in any other way. It takes a lot to excite me like a kid in a candy store, but HyTek brings me so much joy, knowing that I have a lift on life now! But to be honest, this thing is made for anyone who wants to hunt in a tree. It's the safest option out there in the outdoors.
